The Halfway & District Bowling Club has for many years been one of the most successful sports clubs in the area. It has 2 of the best bowling greens in the country and a clubhouse that provides a great atmosphere all year round.
Located in Mill Road the club was originally founded in 1913. The president in that inaugural year was James McComb and the clubs first champion was James Sillars. The Ladies championship was first played for in 1954 and was won by Miss J Haddow. The first lady president was elected in 1956 and this was Mrs T Morris.
The club has enjoyed equal membership for many years with the ladies and gents working extrememly well together, this has led to the club being successful both on and off the green. Visitors from other clubs always enjoy the atmosphere and hospitality that makes us one of the best clubs around.
Over the years Halfway & District have won many national, county and district titles, a list of which can be found here. The club have also provided many Lanarkshire county players from both the ladies and gents sections.
New members are very welcome whether experienced bowlers or complete beginners.
We are fortunate enough to have an excellent club coach and classes are run throughout the season whether you are a complete beginner or just want to improve your game. Bowls and shoes are available for anyone who wants to “try before they buy”!
The bowling season runs from April to September and remember it’s a game which is easy to play, very sociable and also good exercise!
On the social side the club has musical entertainment every Saturday night. There are also other regular functions ranging from charity Race Nights to Quiz Nights and Discos. Our bar is open every night of the week to members and guests.
Come and visit us any evening or during the day at the weekend. There will always be someone at the club willing to talk and tell you all about our club and the game of bowls and how to join!
